Pet Safety Measures At Christmas

Christmas is a time for happiness, joys, and fun for everyone at home. All family members love to celebrate Christmas with its full zeal and zest. Since our four-legged friends are part of our family, therefore we love to include them in our festivities. We often ignore basic pet safety measures during celebrations and allow them what is strictly prohibited in routine. This relaxation in rules put our pets’ lives in danger.

Here are some top tips to remember at Christmas so that our furry or scaly friends may have as much fun as we do.
  • We usually can’t give our pets as much time as we give on daily basis during Christmas parties and celebrations. It is because we are busy in planning and executing Christmas parties, alluring decorations, and fun activities. Pets are sensitive at heart and they immediately feel the ignorance at our end. Therefore, to save from emotional trauma, we should try to keep their routine as normal as possible. We should not forget to hug them on different times of the day when we usually do.
  • Home decorations at Christmas last for few days and some are weighty and others are light. A few electric instruments are also installed into them. Animals love to explore their environment especially the things they find new around them. These new beautiful glittering decorations at home get waste when our dog or cat pulls them down and becomes the reason of breakage of these costly items. In other cases, such accidents can also injure the pets.  So, keep Christmas decorations out of reach of pets.
  • Vets always recommend: keep your pets in a quiet room when you have a plan to play loud bangs or to use crackers and party poppers at Christmas. Animals often get scared at loud bangs and explosions. Therefore, vets always suggest it to all pet owners.

How To Choose A Pet

In the earlier post, I wrote about how to choose a pet when there are more options to choose from and when you have small space. Today, I will discuss three most important factors that help you out for the selection of right pet for right people.

How to choose a pet when you are running short of time?

Some animals require a lot of time looking after them such as walking them, bathing them, feeding them on time, petting them, taking them to the vet regularly, and training them without big gaps. All these chores require a lot of time therefore, some people consider it easier to take care of a child than of a pet. So, if you have a lot of time, you can have dog or cat you desire; if not, go for the best suitable options. One of such options is to adopt virtual pet. By this, you may have an advance experience of looking after a virtual dog or virtual cat or any other virtual pet you like. It will help you out how to look after a pet at home and what are the requirements and needs different animals demand. Within few days, you will be able to decide whether you can afford your favorite pet or not!

How to choose a pet when you can’t afford high nutritional needs?

It is essential to feed your pets with their favorite food when you bring a pet at your home. Pet food can be expensive or rare; all depends upon the type of pet and age of pet. So, it is more important to find out all the information related to food of your pet such as:
  • What kind of food a pet needs?
  • How much food a pet does require per day or per meal?
  • How many times a nutritional food should be given to your lovely animal?
  • Is the food of your pet easily available in your living area?
  • Can your pocket allow buying a special food every time you need it?

Keeping in mind all above questions, you do calculate the money need per day and per week for buying the food for your pet. Home made food for pets would be a smart and cheap choice. If your budget allows having a pet who survives on expensive food, you will have. Otherwise, you should go for the alternative!

How to choose a pet when you can’t afford to take your pet to the vet on alternative days?

Collect authentic medical history of the pet, you want to adopt. There are pets, who have weak immune system and fall sick easily. In such situation, a pet owner has a tough duty to take his lovely pet to the vet even twice a day. Indeed, such pets can make hamper the life of an owner. Therefore, it is essential while choosing a pet that you know the medical possibilities and certain diseases and allergies they may catch often. Try to find out the following facts before taking a final decision:
  • Which types of diseases are common in the selected species of dog, cat, rabbit, parrot, pigeon, and more?
  • Hypersensitivity and hyperactivity of a pet also determine the frequent tours to the vet.
  • You can also get all the information about a pet from the friend, relative, neighbor, or colleague who already has it or had it.

How To Choose A Pet

Choosing an affordable pet is quite a challenge these days. I know that many of you like to have pet at home in order to get love, affection, and help you to fight with stress and anxiety…but can all this really be done on budget, short space, less time demand, and low risk of catching diseases and allergies? Today, I will discuss some of the more important factors that must be considered before making a right selection of a pet for you and your family.

How to choose a pet when there are more options to choose from?

The best criterion for choosing a pet is liking. People who are dying for adopting a dog will choose some perfect breed of dogs. Those who like parrots will select the right breed of existing parrots. On the basis of liking, you are ready to take risk of any kind such as dangerous and poisonous species, exotic pets, such as reptiles or more dangerous wild animals. So, give priority to your liking over other factors while choosing a pet.

How to choose a pet when there is small space?

Some animals require big space while others can survive easily in small space. You must think over the space you have in your home for your new pet before making a final deal. For instance, It is considered a crime to keep a dog into a room of a size equal to your dorm and restrict the movement of pet. Dogs and cats need a space to move on freely therefore, if you are living in a very small apartment, you think about having a guinea pig, a budgie, and a small tank with one or two fish inside.
If you don’t consider the space before making a final decision, you will put yourself into a big trouble and your excitement of having your favorite pet will end up into a nightmare.

If you are like me, you will do research about the pets related to their space needs, time requirements, health problems, nutritional needs (all these factors will be discussed in the next post in detail), before making a final deal of having a pet. When you are unable to do an in-depth research and yet not sure how to choose a pet, try to adopt a virtual pet! It might be a virtual dog, a virtual cat or any other virtual animal you like. I am sure, after having an experience of virtual pet adoption, the selection of right pet would be easier for you.
