Gas In Cats: How To Deal With It


Gas in stomach or intestine or flatulence and bloating in cats are the common problems that need immediate attention of the owner of the cat. Early on treatment can prevent you from big problem while any delay may make the situation worse. Gas trouble in our pets is usually unpleasant for us and uncomfortable for themselves. In simple words, gas problem in animals arises when their digestive system is getting complex and not functioning properly. First, you must take your cat to the nearest vet so that he or she may diagnose with correctly.


Natural Remedies In Order To Cure Gas In Cats:

Here I mention few things that you can do with your lovely cat that has difficulty in passing gases or flatulence or bloating.
  • Give your kitty marshmallows for it helps to strengthen the digestive system and prevents producing excessive gas in cats.
  • Slipper elm is also useful for gas in cats. Research shows that it works wonder against gas and bloating.
  • Licorice – a natural substance is known for keeping the intestine healthy and making the digestion easier in pets.

Preventive Measures Against Gas In Cats/Flatulence:

Let’s start off with a few tips on how to prevent gas in cats.
  • Check with right quantity of food to your cats. You should know the right amount of food requirement of your cat per meal and per day. This will help you prevent your cat from over eating.
  • Ensure high quality food and balanced meal for your pet. Fresh and high quality food can help a lot in maintaining good health of your pets. Flatulence can be prevented with little attention and observation by the owner of the animal. A change in food might be cause of sudden gas in the cats. So, closely observe your cat when you make a change in diet.

  • Keep your dining table clear immediately after having meal. Cats love to eat leftovers and they usually find them on eating tables. So, cat owners should try to stop feeding the cat too much leftovers from becoming the habit and compulsion.
  • Keep your pet on fasting for some time round the clock. This would help the digestive system of your cats function normally.
  • Trash food feeding is one of the major causes of flatulence in cats. So, avoid trash food eating as much as possible.
  • Stressful cats can have disturbed digestive system. If your pet is under stress physically or emotionally, it may develop the problem of gas or flatulence.
  • Walk and exercise can save your cats from many diseases and illnesses. Your cat can get rid of gas in stomach and intestine easily through regular exercise and walk. This is also true that good life style and healthy eating habits can save your pet from many common physical and emotional issues.
  • Do prefer bottled water over chlorinated water. Filtered water is always recommended for the pets by the experienced vet. Fluoridated water isn’t better for your pets at all.
  • Use clean bowls of stainless steel or glass for food and water. Plastic bowls are, actually porous and there are many chances they become the breeding places for bacteria. So, avoid plastic utensils for your pets at all.

Pet Medicine For Canine Arthritis


You own pets, it is inevitable that they need pet medicine at some point in their lives. They might need one time short term treatment when they are young. But they also need pet medicine as preventive measures against the harmful effects of heatworm or fleas.  Pet owners do not want to see their dogs and cats in the pain or suffer from chronic ailments when they age. Therefore, they gladly provide pet medicine to keep them happy and healthy.

The best medicine for dog arthritis:


Every dog has to face the canine arthritis sooner or later as he ages. Aging itself is the major cause of arthritis. A very useful and common pet medicine for arthritis is Deracoxib.
  • It is an oral non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the COX2 inhibitor class that helps to control osteoarthritis-related pain and inflammation and improves mobility.
  • This prescription medicine is available in 25, 75, and 100 mg chewable tablets and can be obtained from a veterinarian.
  • It can be given with or without food, though empty stomach is preferred.
  • Deracoxib is flavored to make it a bit more palatable. These tablets are formulated with a beef flavor.
  • Remember:  Deracoxib cannot be used of the pain control in cats.

Dosage:

Any type of medication should never be administered without the consultation of veterinarian.
  • If Deracoxib is being used for postoperative pain relief, the requirement is 3 to 4 mg/kg/day. The medicine should not continue for more than 7 days.
  • Deracoxib is used for osteoarthritis pain relief and minimum dose is adjusted by the veterinarian. It could be from ¼ of a pill every other day to 1 pill every day.

Precautions and Side effects of Deracoxib:


1. This pet medicine should not be used or if use carefully when your dog is having following health issues such as:
  • Hypertension
  • Allergy
  • Dehydration
  • Kidney disease
  • Heart disease
  • Liver ailment

2. Only the vet can decide that Deracoxib should be prescribed to dogs, already suffering from above mentioned disease.
3. This pet medicine should not be used in dogs weighing less than four pounds or 2 kg.
4. Deracoxib is not recommended for puppies who are under four months of age.
Anorexia and vomiting are the common side effects of Deracoxib.
5. It should be carefully used when dog is already using other medicines.

Always use the pet medicine carefully and only with veterinarian’s prescription.
