Christmas Dog Health Advice: Avoid Poisonous Fruits To Dogs That Alarm!

Many household items are toxic to pets, disclosed by a resident veterinarian Debbye Turner in a local TV show. Pet lovers keep the pets away from the substances that they consider extremely harmful for them such as cleaning detergents, medicines, and household chemicals. But, they are few who know that there are many substances that are absolutely safe for human beings, but extremely poison for their pets. So, I thought why don’t I share information about the fruits that you love to eat, but they are toxic to your dogs.

  1. Apples: The seeds of apples can be toxic to dogs. The toxic ingredient is present in the mid of apple seed. So, you should not allow your dog to chew and crush the apple seeds with the teeth. Give the deseeded slices of apples to your dogs!
  2. Avocados: Avocados contain a toxin know as “Persin” that leads to cardiovascular issues in the dogs. Avocado ingestion becomes the one of the major cause of fluid accumulation around the heart and many other critical respiratory complications. So, you enjoy the avocado, but forget about feeding it to your puppy.
  3. Grapes and Raisins: The exact reason and toxic ingredient in grapes is not yet known, but dogs show the signs of poisoning usually within 24 hours after intake of grapes and raisins made food.  Grapes ingestion cause acute renal failure with lack of urine production (anuria). It’s not okay if you give even small number of grapes to your dog as treat. Even small amounts of grapes and raisins can be poisonous for some species of dogs.
  4. Berries (either red or yellow): Berries intake in around 20 can lead to death in dogs. Bark, leaves, and seeds of holly berries are extremely poisonous. So, avoid berries as treats for your dogs.
  5. Bittersweet berries: American bittersweets are known for having highest toxic substance in them, including all parts. This poisonous fruit to dogs does hit directly gastrointestinal tract and the central nervous system. So, keep bittersweet berries away from your lovely puppies and dogs at all cost.
  6. Peach: The pulp of the peach does not have any harmful impact on the body of your dog, but the problem arises with the seeds or pits of peaches. They contain cyanide, which is a potentially deadly chemical that can cause inflammation of the small intestine in dogs.
  7. Plums: The seed part of the plum is extremely harmful for the dog because it has accumulation of cyanide, a deadly chemical that leads to intestinal obstruction.
  8. Persimmons: The consumption of this fruit with seeds causes intestinal blockage in dogs. You are human being and understand what is good and what is bad for your health. But, animals can’t understand this aspect. Therefore, the best prevention is to keep such fruits off counters.
  9. Cherry tomatoes: Both green tomatoes and eye-catching small cherry tomatoes are toxic to dogs and it is unwise to feed these fruits to your lovely pets. These alluring and tempting fruits may cause to severe gastrointestinal problems.
  10. Ripe cashew fruit: Cashew apple is usually discarded since it get fermented rapidly and become the acute toxic substance when it is eaten. So, ripe cashew fruit is not a healthy treat for your buddy dog.

My Cognition Of Poisonous Fruits to Dogs that Alarm:

I just came to know that all dog owners should keep three factors in their minds when they are about to select fruits as Christmas treat for their special friends “Dogs”.
  • Quantity: Quantity determines the degree of poisonous. Large amounts might be toxic, but small quantity of toxic fruits to dog can’t play havoc with their body systems at all. A very small portion of poisonous fruit to dog can satiate the temptation of eating a toxic fruit to an extent and keeps the dog healthy.
  • Freshness: Make it sure that fruit you are going to offer your dog, must be fresh.
  • Ripe Fruits: Unripe fruits become the major cause of toxic production in the body of dogs. Therefore, always select the ripe fruits for your dogs.
  • Fruit seeds or pits: You must avoid seeds or pits of many fruits in the diet of your dogs.
  • Bright colored fruits: Do you notice that all poisonous fruits to dogs are bright colored? Therefore, an amazing tip to remember is to avoid bright color fruits as tasty treats for your puppies and dogs.

An easy trick: If you are confused about a fruit whether it is toxic to dogs or not, here is an excellent trick that I usually use and it really works: Give your dog a small portion of the ripe and fresh fruit without seeds, leaves, and stems and let your dog enjoy the flesh of the fruit without any toxic consequences later!

Remember, poisonous fruits to dogs always remain poisonous if they are not eaten carefully. So, it is always suggested to avoid poisonous fruits to dogs to a great extent.

Top Pet Names Of 2012

Every pet lover goes under panic when he or she brings a new kitten at home and doesn’t know what name to it. Many of you look for pet names in famous pet movies, TV serials, pet magazines, and pet names websites while others want to name their pets after royal pets, famous celebrity pets, and popular pets of the world.

Vetstreet.com has done a great job in this case. Recently, it published a list of top ten most popular kitten names of 2012. A huge data of around 643,000 kitten names (who were named in 2012) was collected and analyzed to conclude the top pet names of 2012. This study also showed that there was no big difference in name trending as in last year’s list. Very few new names came up in the list of famous pet names of 2012.

Here are top 10 most popular kitten names of 2012:
FEMALE
MALE
Bella
Max
Kitty
Oliver
Lucy
Tiger
Chloe
Samba
Luna
Charlie
Sophie
Milo
Lily
Smokey
Daisy
Jack
Lilly
Leo
callie
kitty

My Cognition:

  • Pet lovers like the traditional pet names the most like ever before. This can be clearly seen in the top ten famous kitten names’ list released by the Vetstreet.com. This also shows that traditional pet naming trends such as Tiger and Smokey have no less value even in this technology era. It still has own charisma, attraction, and appeal.
  • Pet owners love to call out their pets after names of famous movie pets, novel pets, and top selling book pets. The reason behind this trend is, pet lovers want to see their pets with the same characteristics, attitude, and qualities. Therefore, pet naming trend for characteristics will never lose its charm, enchantment, and seduction.
  • Naming pets after human names is a very old style, but it never comes to an end. Psychology behind this dominating pet naming trend is, pet lovers want to give their pets a true family place and position. They don’t want to have any difference between their kids and pets. Therefore, they name their kittens after Max, Jasper, Oliver, Charlie, Lucy, Sophie, Bella, Lily, and Lilly.

It is heartening that new names to pets are on rise and the trend of new and unique naming to pets is getting popularity day by day. Notable newcomers are:
  • Willow,
  • Katniss,
  • Oscar,
  • Louie,
  • Stella,
  • Loki,
  • Thor, and etc.

Though, they all are notable names in human world, but they are on the rise in the list of famous pet names.

I have an idea! Why don’t you share your pet names here and I make a list of Unique and Cute Pet Names.

Pet Safety Measures At Christmas

Christmas is a time for happiness, joys, and fun for everyone at home. All family members love to celebrate Christmas with its full zeal and zest. Since our four-legged friends are part of our family, therefore we love to include them in our festivities. We often ignore basic pet safety measures during celebrations and allow them what is strictly prohibited in routine. This relaxation in rules put our pets’ lives in danger.

Here are some top tips to remember at Christmas so that our furry or scaly friends may have as much fun as we do.
  • We usually can’t give our pets as much time as we give on daily basis during Christmas parties and celebrations. It is because we are busy in planning and executing Christmas parties, alluring decorations, and fun activities. Pets are sensitive at heart and they immediately feel the ignorance at our end. Therefore, to save from emotional trauma, we should try to keep their routine as normal as possible. We should not forget to hug them on different times of the day when we usually do.
  • Home decorations at Christmas last for few days and some are weighty and others are light. A few electric instruments are also installed into them. Animals love to explore their environment especially the things they find new around them. These new beautiful glittering decorations at home get waste when our dog or cat pulls them down and becomes the reason of breakage of these costly items. In other cases, such accidents can also injure the pets.  So, keep Christmas decorations out of reach of pets.
  • Vets always recommend: keep your pets in a quiet room when you have a plan to play loud bangs or to use crackers and party poppers at Christmas. Animals often get scared at loud bangs and explosions. Therefore, vets always suggest it to all pet owners.
