Many household items are toxic to pets, disclosed by a
resident veterinarian Debbye Turner in a local TV show. Pet lovers keep the
pets away from the substances that they consider extremely harmful for them
such as cleaning detergents, medicines, and household chemicals. But, they are
few who know that there are many substances that are absolutely safe for human
beings, but extremely poison for their pets. So, I thought why don’t I share
information about the fruits that you love to eat, but they are toxic to your
dogs.
- Apples: The seeds of apples can be toxic to dogs. The toxic
ingredient is present in the mid of apple seed. So, you should not allow your
dog to chew and crush the apple seeds with the teeth. Give the deseeded slices
of apples to your dogs!
- Avocados: Avocados contain a toxin know as “Persin” that
leads to cardiovascular issues in the dogs. Avocado ingestion becomes the one
of the major cause of fluid accumulation around the heart and many other
critical respiratory complications. So, you enjoy the avocado, but forget about
feeding it to your puppy.
- Grapes and Raisins: The exact reason and toxic ingredient in
grapes is not yet known, but dogs show the signs of poisoning usually within 24
hours after intake of grapes and raisins made food. Grapes ingestion cause acute renal failure
with lack of urine production (anuria). It’s not okay if you give even small
number of grapes to your dog as treat. Even small amounts of grapes and raisins
can be poisonous for some species of dogs.
- Berries (either red or yellow): Berries intake in around 20
can lead to death in dogs. Bark, leaves, and seeds of holly berries are
extremely poisonous. So, avoid berries as treats for your dogs.
- Bittersweet berries: American bittersweets are known for
having highest toxic substance in them, including all parts. This poisonous
fruit to dogs does hit directly gastrointestinal tract and the central nervous
system. So, keep bittersweet berries away from your lovely puppies and dogs at
all cost.
- Peach: The pulp of the peach does not have any harmful
impact on the body of your dog, but the problem arises with the seeds or pits of
peaches. They contain cyanide, which is a potentially deadly chemical that can
cause inflammation of the small intestine in dogs.
- Plums: The seed part of the plum is extremely harmful for
the dog because it has accumulation of cyanide, a deadly chemical that leads to
intestinal obstruction.
- Persimmons: The consumption of this fruit with seeds causes
intestinal blockage in dogs. You are human being and understand what is good
and what is bad for your health. But, animals can’t understand this aspect.
Therefore, the best prevention is to keep such fruits off counters.
- Cherry tomatoes: Both green tomatoes and eye-catching small
cherry tomatoes are toxic to dogs and it is unwise to feed these fruits to your
lovely pets. These alluring and tempting fruits may cause to severe
gastrointestinal problems.
- Ripe cashew fruit: Cashew apple is usually discarded since
it get fermented rapidly and become the acute toxic substance when it is eaten.
So, ripe cashew fruit is not a healthy treat for your buddy dog.
My Cognition Of Poisonous Fruits to Dogs that Alarm:
I just came to know that all dog owners should keep three
factors in their minds when they are about to select fruits as Christmas treat
for their special friends “Dogs”.
- Quantity: Quantity determines the degree of poisonous. Large
amounts might be toxic, but small quantity of toxic fruits to dog can’t play
havoc with their body systems at all. A very small portion of poisonous fruit
to dog can satiate the temptation of eating a toxic fruit to an extent and keeps
the dog healthy.
- Freshness: Make it sure that fruit you are going to offer
your dog, must be fresh.
- Ripe Fruits: Unripe fruits become the major cause of toxic
production in the body of dogs. Therefore, always select the ripe fruits for
your dogs.
- Fruit seeds or pits: You must avoid seeds or pits of many
fruits in the diet of your dogs.
- Bright colored fruits: Do you notice that all poisonous fruits
to dogs are bright colored? Therefore, an amazing tip to remember is to avoid
bright color fruits as tasty treats for your puppies and dogs.
An easy trick: If you are confused about a fruit whether it
is toxic to dogs or not, here is an excellent trick that I usually use and it
really works: Give your dog a small portion of the ripe and fresh fruit without
seeds, leaves, and stems and let your dog enjoy the flesh of the fruit without
any toxic consequences later!
Remember, poisonous fruits to dogs always remain poisonous
if they are not eaten carefully. So, it is always suggested to avoid poisonous fruits
to dogs to a great extent.
